RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday

RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday

If I had to choose some of my favourite local events, the RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday is definitely up there with the best!

Just in case you don’t know, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a charity that saves lives at sea. This charity is extremely important and highly regarded by our local community here in Poole, Bournemouth and beyond.

The RNLI Funday is a great way to support the RNLI whilst having a whole lot of fun with friends, family, the community and even people we haven’t yet met! (We’re a friendly, chatty bunch here in Dorset, don’t you think?!).

If you would like to find out when this event is on, what happens on the day and why I’m such a big fan then please read on.

RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday 2024

What is the RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday?

The RNLI Funday is an annual fundraiser event which supports the local RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat service.

It brings the local community together for a fun filled day with family friendly activities and competitions. This event celebrates the heroes who save lives at sea whilst raising the funds necessary to keep this great cause going.

WHEN

When is the RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday 2024?

The RNLI Funday is on Sunday 11th August 2024. It starts at 11AM and finishes at 5PM.

It’s an event that’s been held annually for over 25 years, and was only cancelled in 2019 because of bad weather. Then in 2020 and 2021 it was cancelled due to covid. In 2022 it finally returned and what a year that was! The weather could not have been better and as a family we had such an amazing, happy, fun filled day.

I’ll update this article once a date has been confirmed for 2024.

THE EVENT

What happens at the RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday?

A raft race, a duck race, lifesaving displays, water-sports demos, the chance to look around a Poole Lifeboat, stalls and sideshows, a funfair, bouncy castle, face painting, a raffle, live entertainment with a picnic area and refreshments.

Is there a Mudeford Raft Race 2024?

The RNLI Raft Race is on every year unless a safety risk assessment highlights an issue.

The Mudeford raft race is always a lot of fun and starts with each team creating their own rafts using various materials and a bit of creativity. We really look forward to seeing the amazing creations on the day. After safety checks have been completed, the race will begin and each team will paddle their raft around a designated course.

How does the Mudeford Dorset duck race work?

At the RNLI Mudeford Dorset Duck Race we are given a number which is already written on a rubber duck. Later on in the day we watch the ducks being released into the water at Mudeford Quay.

The current carries them along and the one that makes it across the finish line first wins some cash! Sadly we haven’t won the duck race yet but my daughter thinks the whole thing is fabulous and goes crazy when she sees all the ducks being released!

WHY WE RECOMMEND THIS FUNDAY

What do we enjoy the most at the Funday?

Our daughter loves dancing in the picnic area whilst watching live entertainment and for us, it’s a great opportunity to sit down, relax and enjoy some food and drink!

The last time we went to the Funday we indulged in chips, chicken burgers, ice cream and churros! I find there are always plenty of food and drink options with vans offering a wide variety choice. My daughter also enjoyed some blue candy floss on a stick!

Other highlights include looking around the stalls (our daughter thinks the lucky dip is cool), the fun fair rides (cruising in Lightning McQueen was fun) and our favourite, as discussed previously, has to be the duck race!

RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat Funday Conclusion

The RNLI Funday is a wonderful, free, family event that is enjoyed by all. We love seeing the different kinds of rafts everyone has come up with and watching the rubber ducks floating along. It’s a great day of fun with the local community, that supports an amazing cause at the same time. We highly recommend this event and like to attend every year!

2023 marked the 60th anniversary of the RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat. We would like to wish them a massive congratulations and to thank everyone at the charity for everything they do!
